RSVP NEEDED!

The first 72 players to RSVP for the 2:00 pm shotgun and the first 144 players to RSVP for the 5:30 pm shotgun will play golf opening night. Everyone else is still welcome to come to the social and meeting. There is no need to RSVP if you are coming to just the social and meeting.

You will not need to sign up or RSVP for all other Men’s Day events, just opening night.

Dues:

The dues for the 2017 BCMGA are $70

Includes handicap, opening night hors d’oeuvres and keg beer, eligibility to play in the Men’s Club Championship, preferred course access on Wednesday evenings, and our year-end steak fry with keg beer.

Dues may be paid at the opening night registration or anytime between now and the end of the season.

Due to high interest in our Men’s Day, in order to be a member of the Bakker Crossing Men’s Golf Association and play on Wednesday nights, you MUST be a member of GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness Club.

Rivers Bend and Par Mar are the Newest Golf Additions for GreatLIFE Golf Members

GreatLIFE is ushering in excellent golf weather with two excellent new courses. We’re pleased to announce that River’s Bend and Par Mar are the newest courses in the GreatLIFE family, giving our members even more options to stay fit, stay active and get outside.

Rivers Bend features 9-holes of great golf along the bends of the Big Sioux River. Located just east of the city of Flandreau, it is ideally situated for players of all abilities, local golfers and day-trippers from Brookings, Sioux Falls and Minnesota. Rivers Bend features 2,884 yards of golf for a par of 35, making for a scenic and fun round of golf.

Par Mar is located just two miles west of Parker and gets its name from both Parker and nearby Marion. This 9-hole course sits in a rolling valley and is intersected by the west branch of the Vermillion River and a creek that bring water into play on eight of the course’s holes. Par Mar features 2,858 yards of golf for a par of 35 and provides great play with a country backdrop.

The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion joins GreatLIFE

Members Can Enjoy Spectacular Views and Spectacular Golf

GreatLIFE Malaska Golf & Fitness Club is proud to announce its newest affiliate golf course in South Dakota – The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion.

GreatLIFE golfers of every skill level will enjoy the challenge and scenic beauty of this par 72, 18-hole, multi-level golf course situated among the beautiful Missouri Bluffs. The beautiful landscaping, ten acres of reflecting lakes and eight acres of wetlands make a day on the course feel like a vacation.

The course offers 6,684 yards of golf with a slope rating of 123 on Blue grass. Designed by Patrick H. Wyss, the course opened in 1996. The course also features a full service pro shop, driving range, practice greens and short order grill for relaxing at the end of the day.

The Bluffs is located just 45 minutes from Sioux Falls and 30 minutes from Sioux City.

According to GreatLIFE Chairman/CEO Thomas P. Walsh, Sr., “The Bluffs is a great course and the setting is fantastic. I think it’s close enough to Sioux Falls to bring out a lot of our members and give them a new location that’s a little off the beaten path. ”

The Madison Golf & Country Club is a hidden jewel in eastern South Dakota which features an 18-hole regulation length golf course and stunning views of Lake Herman. The diversity of landscape, rolling hills, and professionally maintained course make Madison a shot-makers dream and a favorite among South Dakota golfers. The 18-hole, 6,132yd, par 71 course is designed to offer an enjoyable round for golfers of all abilities.

Sunrise Ridge Golf Course is nestled among the roads weaving through the south edge of Colman on Hwy 34. This beautiful 9-hole, par 36 course offers a 2,825-yard challenge to golfers of all skill levels and another great golf opportunity for GreatLIFE members.

Frost Delay Ahead!

What does frost mean for golf courses?

It’s that time of year again and frost is in the forecast for this weekend.

What can we do to help our golf courses and Superintendents?

The best medicine is for all to understand the purpose of a frost delay and in turn gain a greater appreciation for the golf course.

Foot traffic on the golf course causes substantial damage to frozen greens.

WHAT DOES FROST MEAN FOR THE GOLF COURSES?
Frost is basically frozen dew that has crystallized on the grass, making it hard and brittle. Frost can only survive at temperatures of 32º Fahrenheit and below. This does not mean air temperature must be below 32º for frost to form. Sometimes frost can form even when the air temperature is in the upper 30’s.

A grass blade is actually 90 percent water, therefore it also freezes. Walking on frost covered greens causes the plant to break and cell walls to rupture, thereby losing its ability to function normally. When the membrane is broken, much like an egg, it cannot be put back together.

A short frost delay can help preserve the quality of the golf course and prevent costly repairs.

DELAYED IMPACT
Golfers who ignore frost delays will not see immediate damage. The proof
generally comes 48-72 hours later as the grass may turn purple or black, eventually fading to a very light brown. The result is a thinning of the putting surface and a weakening of the plant, sometimes even death of the plant. The greens in turn become more susceptible to disease and weeds. Additionally, weaker grass, even if it doesn’t die, may be more susceptible to disease and weed formation in the future.

CLUBHOUSE HOURS / FROST DELAY POLICY
At all GreatLIFE facilities, golfers must check-in at the pro shop before beginning play. Golfers are permitted to play on the golf course only after the clubhouse opens and they have checked in. If there is a frost delay, the golf course staff will determine when play may begin.

PLAY ON THE COURSE BEFORE THE CLUBHOUSE OPENS IS NOT PERMITTED!

OCTOBER HOURS – *Note: If there is frost in the forecast, the golf courses will not open until 9:00 am.

Willow Run – 8:00 am – Sunset
Bakker Crossing – 8:00 am – Sunset
Central Valley – 8:00 am – Sunset
Rocky Run – 8:00 am – Sunset
Worthington – 8:00 am – Sunset

If ever in doubt, give the course a phone call before heading out to play to see if tee-times have been pushed back due to frost. Even the use of practice facilities (putting green and driving range ) is disallowed during a frost delay.

100 Years of Exceptional Golf in Plankinton

Now you can take advantage of all GreatLIFE has to offer in Plankinton, South Dakota with the addition of Fish Lake Country Club to GreatLIFE Malaska Golf & Fitness Club.

Fish Lake Country Club was established in 1914 by local sportsmen as a place to enjoy recreational and social activities. Throughout its history, both serious and recreational golfers have visited Fish Lake to find good friends, a warm welcome and a great game of golf in a beautiful setting.

Known for its pristine greens and come-one-come-all mentality, this nine-hole course is located about halfway between Plankinton and Mt. Vernon, South Dakota off old Highway 16 and features 2,744 yards of exceptional golf for a par of 36.

The club’s bar and restaurant is a gathering place for everyone in the surrounding areas from old-timers to young families. The menu includes great choices from steak and prime rib to savory sandwiches. A wide variety of bottled beer, tap beer and top-shelf liquor is served by friendly bartenders and wait staff and the club is available for parties and get-togethers of all sizes.
